Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy… a Christmas song I remember playing over and over again on our record player as a small child. Take me back to the days when stringing popcorn for the tree and door to door visits from neighbors caroling were some simple things of life I looked forward to this time of year.
On my travels in the last week, I’ve spotted Christmas lights and festive trees already in windows. Turkey day and the Macy’s parade are still almost two weeks away! Do you see what I see?
People are desperate to celebrate. They are hoping Christmas might bring some change to the current environment.
I am a wife, a mother, a realtor, a friend, a school board director, and a few other roles I’ve taken on over the years. Some roles came naturally, some I’ve chosen and others I was asked to accept. In the past few years I’ve had the task of listening and considering the voices of friends, family, clients, parents and community members who stand on various sides of life and political issues. That said, when addressing the exceptionally diverse public, many times words are spoken but few have ears to hear. Many will speak but only will hear what they believe or agree with. Which begs the question, do you hear what I hear?
Everywhere I go I hear disheartened people who are hoping and praying for the extreme division among the people to come to an end. Family and friends wish to return to a world where Holidays come and go without thinking about how many are too many guests, how far apart to space people at the table, and if someone has or doesn’t have his/her vaccination.
So is it any wonder people are lighting up their homes, putting up the tree and playing Christmas music????
Lyrics from the last verse of the Christmas song of which I entitled this blog…
Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say! (Listen to what I say!)
Pray for peace, people, everywhere
Listen to what I say! (Listen to what I say!)
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

May we all have better ears to listen and hear the greatest message of hope that will ever be told.
