I’m just about to turn a half-century young. Still holding on to 49 while I can. I’ve always said I will never retire. The day that happens will be the day I die. I look at retirement differently. I may work less or have a few more or a lot more pains but the plan is to go out with a bang no matter what my age.
That said, I chosen to break down the subject word to “re-tire-ment”…Meaning the intentional act of being “re-tired”. Or a simpler way to understand it is putting brand new tread on the car.
As parents of three young men, ages 23, 22, and 20, we made then decision to pay for good tires when they hit the roads. Cheap tires don’t last long. They also make it difficult to drive in less than optimum conditions. A great tire can last for years and when regularly rotated and balanced can provide a safe and steady ride no matter what the weather.
Many of you may have heard the famous Carrie Underwood song “Jesus take the wheel”. I think it’s a good idea to give him my tires too. I’m certain His choice would way better than mine. He’s done a great job in the past and I’m sure He knows the older I get the more He might have to choose something different but always perfect for the season.
Seasons change. I “re-tired” now at least three times. Once when I got married, another when I became a parent, and now as our kids are not kids anymore. We are becoming “empty nesters”and that is another blog for another day.
Getting a quality set of new tires is always satisfying. As my hubby and I prepare to re-tire once again we continue regularly to ask the “Big Man” upstairs what to put on. I look at it like an automobile. He is crafting our new ride, one part at a time. Every detail is important but the final product is a great set of tread that will take us anywhere He wants us to go.
Who knows how many more times I might “re-tire”? I do know there is always better tread ahead until I pull in to my final destination where I happily retire my tires forever.
CHOOSE JOY everyday 💗
