Particular and Patient

We have been talking about a kitchen remodel for years. We purchased our home 15 years ago and one of the big reasons I adored our house was the huge kitchen. I knew we could change it in time. Little did I know it would only happen after the boys started college. Appetites and schedules became fierce. I couldn’t begin to imagine not having a place to cook and have dinner together for two months or more. So, I waited. DISCLAIMER: The image you are about to view is graphic. It will most likely cause you to want to start a GoFundMe page. The photo is of a cistern in the floor. (Under our table) Believe it or not, for the past 14 years, we’ve invited our entire neighborhood into this kitchen every December for food and fellowship. Most of our home is cozy and updated…the kitchen is just a disaster.

I am the cook. Me, myself, and I. I do love it, though it does get exhausting. I did teach the boys how to cook on off hours. When the refrigerator became a revolving door and they began having “feedings” at 4pm, 7pm, and 10pm they had to step up to the plate. At one point, I got up to go to the bathroom at 2am and smelled a pizza in the oven. Just our youngest getting hungry…AGAIN. There is a reason we raise seven chickens. One child can put away one dozen eggs in 24 hours. “Our girls” work hard laying big brown eggs daily to keep up with the boys ferocious appetites.

OUR GIRLS

I should mention my absolute favorite appliance is our Breville Countertop Smart Oven. We are on our second. Not because the first wore out…they came out with a newer, better model. I swear it does everything! The boys use it to make food daily when they are home. I use it a lot over the summer instead of firing up the big oven. It fits a full pizza or 9X13. You can roast a chicken or air fry. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t selling Real Estate, I’d sell for Breville Smart Ovens.

So, the real reason it has taken me so long is…I’m PARTICULAR. In caps. I don’t like what everyone else does. I’m an “outside the box” thinker and I don’t like to conform to trends. Don’t get me wrong, as a full-time Realtor I see a lot of beautiful white kitchens with subway tiles showcasing the “Magnolia magic” that has seemed to take the USA by storm. It’s just not for me. I want something timeless and super SIMPLE. Yep, there is that word again. SIMPLE. Recently, I was perusing the internet (again) trying to find the kitchen of my dreams. You do understand I have been looking for YEARS! Magazines, publications, blogs, Pinterest, and NOTHING until now! I stumbled upon the blog of Maria Killam. I found the kitchen of my dreams in photo form. Finally what I have been waiting for. Here is the photo…I’m in love.

Stayed tuned 2020!

Pondering these things today…

  1. Waiting is worth it
  2. Thankful for incredible online sources and bloggers like you!
  3. Everyday choose joy!

  1. Beautiful! Have fun!

I cracked up at your teenagers’ “feedings” at 4 PM, 7 PM, 10 PM, and 2 AM! Been there!!

You would cringe if I ever showed you pictures of our red and white farmhouse kitchen, but a whole lot of people were fed in it. Many happy memories.
