The New Definition of “fast food”…

It was the beginning of last year when I opted to participate with my church in fasting all social media, news, books, television, podcasts etc…

With great resistance, I drug my feet (and every other part of me) into a 3 week media fast.

I shared what God did in a past blog…how He radically changed my life and career by feeding my senses through the Truth of only His Word.

Media has quickly become the new “fast food” diet…actually a buffet… limitless and the struggle to be filled never goes away. It’s hard to know when to say when and what to help yourself to. Resisting it is almost impossible. So much food, so little time! 24/7 access from almost anywhere. Algorithms now make sure we get more and more of the food we can’t get enough of. We don’t even need to find the fancy food we desire because someone already has figured out what we think we need to fill us. Still, it never satisfies the hunger.

A diet filled with burgers, fries, and milkshakes will eventually kill one physically.

The “new fast food” diet is much more dangerous because targets all the senses and creates an addiction that cannot easily be broken internally. Externally, it fires on all cylinders and creates personal agendas, entitlement, division, chaos and the list goes on.

The most disgusting part of this new diet is that most of the food is a fantasy. It looks like a “foodie’s dream” …prepared only by the best of chefs. The problem is it’s generally tasteless, unsatisfying and oftentimes leaves you sick and still wanting more after constant consumption.

My choice to fast the “new fast food” for three weeks in 2022 was one of the best decisions of my life. God prepared the table. I feasted on being still in His presence and consumed His Truth and promises which can only be found in His Word. It is the ultimate feast! It fills the hungriest and emptiest of souls.

Fasting all media was not easy and frankly, I went into it with a bad attitude. He still filled me up because I gave Him the spoon. Little did I know, He was about to take all the flatware out or my hand, mix up the table, and provide a feast like I never had before.

I highly recommended fasting any and all media. Soak in His presence. It’s not easy but I promise you it’s worth it and you will be filled!

Today, a friend of mine hosted a “Be Still” retreat day for me and a few other ladies. It was a gift! God has placed a desire in her heart to provide a beautiful space for intentional quiet time. It gave me time to pause and to write this new blog.

God is so faithful and I look forward to more opportunities to pause, fast media, and simply be still.
